COTABATO CITY NEWS – July 6, 2012/Sha’ban 16, 1433H – Today, thousands of MILF members and supporters were observed to be traveling towards Camp Darapanan located at Sultan Kudarat Municipality in Maguindanao province to attend the Bangsamoro Leaders Assembly. Camp Darapanan is located 22 kms north of Cotabato City.
The Assembly will start today July 6 and end on July 9. It is expected to be attended by moro leaders from the entire Mindanao including the island provinces of Palawan, Sulu, Basilan and Tawi-Tawi, representatives from member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Office of the Presidential Assistant on the Peace Process (OPAPP), members of Congress, Local Government Executives, various International and local NGO,s, Peoples’ organizations and other stake holders of the peace process.
MNLF Chairman Muslimin G. Sema and other members of the Moro National Liberation Front were also invited.
Cotabato Archbishop Orlando B. Quevedo, OMI D.D. was likewise invited to give a message during the opening program of the Assembly tomorrow.
The 4-day Bangsamoro Leaders Assembly seeks to update the general citizenry on the status of the peace process, gather feedback and reactions on the salient points of the peace initiatives, generate consensus among the Bangsamoro on the direction of the peace process and consolidate and unify all Moro groups regardless of affiliation for the purpose of attaining lasting peace in Mindanao.
Participants are hopeful that after the Assembly, the attainment of peace in Mindanao is just a step away.
